Wortley Hall Walled Garden is an organically certified kitchen garden just outside Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Since April 2004 Heeley City Farm has undertaken its restoration and use in order to achieve a number of aims:

  1. Take the initiative to develop a network of social enterprises supplying quality organic food to the local community.
  2. Provide learning opportunities for people in the region through courses and workshops.
  3. Provide volunteering opportunities for people who want to find out more about growing their own food, or just getting some exercise in beautiful surroundings.
  4. Opening to the public for special events, such as the South Yorkshire Festival in July, Specialist Plant Fairs run by Wortley Hall, Apple Day...

Events and courses for 2008

Starting 4 March. Local Food Growing Champions Course
Tuesdays 11am - 1pm Learn how to grow your own food organically on our friendly, free course. Beginners welcome, all materials provided. Ten practical sessions will provide you with the knowledge and skills to start growing tyour own fresh veg. Funded by the Academy for Community Leadership.
26 April. HarveStar Organic Growing Workshop
One day workshop focussing mostly on creating fertile soils, green manures and composting. Organised with the Soil Association. For booking details go to the Soil Association website and click on the HarveStar classes.
1 June. Open Day
The Walled Garden will be open to the public 10am -4pm Plants and produce -if we've had a good Spring!- on sale. This coincides with Wortley Hall Specialist Plant Fair. £1.50 entrance.
22 June. Open Day for National Gardening Scheme.
The Walled Garden will be open to the public 12 -4pm, plants and produce on sale. Entrance to all Wortley Hall grounds £3.00, proceeds to NGS charities.
1 July. South Yorkshire Festival
The Walled Garden will be open to coincide with the SY Festival at Wortley Hall. Have a look at the progress we have made. Plants and produce on sale.
24 August. Open Day
Walled Garden open to public 10am - 4pm ,plants and produce on sale. Coincides with Wortley Hall Specialist Plant Fair, entrance £1.50.
6 September. HarveStarOrganic Growing Workshop.
One day workshop looking at seed saving and growing crops through the winter months.Organised with the Soil Association.For booking details go to the Soil Association website and click on the HarveStar classes.
Farmers' Markets
